How to Restore the Classic Mail App Look After iOS 18.3
The recent iOS 18.3 update introduced significant changes to the iPhone Mail app's interface, including categorized inbox views and contact photos. If you prefer the previous design, here's how to revert these changes.
What Changed in iOS 18.3? The update added two major features:
- Email categorization (Primary, Updates, etc.)
- Contact photos next to sender names
Removing Email Categories
To return to the traditional list view:
1. Open the Mail app
2. Tap the three-dot menu (ellipsis) in the upper right corner
3. Select "List View" from the options
**Important:** This change must be made separately for each mailbox in the Mail app.
Disabling Contact Photos
To remove the contact photos:
1. Open Settings
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap "Apps"
3. Find and tap "Mail"
4. Under "Message List," toggle off "Show Contact Photos"
**Note:** Unlike the list view setting, this change applies to all mailboxes automatically.
Customizing Your Experience
You can choose to keep one new feature while disabling the other. For example, you might want to:
- Keep contact photos but disable categories
- Keep categories but remove contact photos
The flexibility of these settings allows you to customize the Mail app's appearance to best suit your preferences and workflow.
While iOS updates bring new features, you maintain control over how your Mail app looks and functions. These simple settings adjustments let you restore the familiar interface you prefer.
